December’s cover story on ‘The Decade of Transformation’ elicits opinion from institution heads. These institutions are the Life and General Insurance Councils, two educational training institutions Insurance Institute of India and Financial Planning Standard Boards and the National Federation of Insurance Field Workers of India and the Life Insurance Agents Federation of India representing agents.

Thousands of agents from all over the country congregated at Delhi’s Ram Lila Maidan for a Maha Sammelan to protest the Swarup Committee proposal to phase out agents’ commission. After taking out a rally to the Prime Minister’s Office, a few representatives handed over a memorandum at the PMO.

Office bearers of Life Insurance Agents Federation of India (LIAFI) met a host of dignitaries including Mr Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister, Mr S Jaipal Reddy, Union Urban Development Minister, Mr Rajnath Singh, Leader of the Opposition, Mr Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha MP to protest the Swarup committee recommendation phasing out agents’ commission.
